Arts & Human Sciences (AHS)
Arts & Human Sciences is a multidisciplinary department with concentrations in Media & Art, Psychology, Crime & Justice Studies, and Humanities. The interdisciplinary nature of our programs demonstrates that collaboration between scholars and artists from different disciplines strengthens student learning to further their academic and professional pursuits.
Northern is located in the Española Valley, rich in history, culture, art, land, and community. Our approach is community-centered and culturally based. We offer courses online and in-person, and our teaching is innovative. Our faculty are artists, filmmakers, academics, writers, performing artists, professionals, and activists. We integrate disciplines, and we invite you to join us!
ESP: Every student podcast
Northern’s "ESP / Every Student Podcast" is a 100% student-run campus podcast that is recorded, edited, and mixed at our Center for the Arts and is open to all Northern students for contribution. Just one year since its launch, Northern students have produced 16 podcasts with over 1000 listeners. Check us out:
Internships at the Santa Fe Opera
A unique partnership between the Santa Fe Opera and Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is giving Northern students the chance to experience backstage production firsthand. A new internship program provides mentoring and hands-on training to NNMC Film & Digital Media Arts (FDMA) students through shadowing the people who design and build the sets, props and costumes.
CFA Gallery Reopening
The CFA Gallery is a creative space in the Nick Salazar Center for the Arts, showcasing student, faculty, and community submissions alongside national and international artists' work. The gallery provides a platform for creative expression and cultural exchange, and invites the college and greater community to engage with diverse perspectives and experiences.
